Coach Lacey Headley

Current Team
2032 Black

Lacey (Hentz) Headley has over 25 years of experience as a player and coach in the women’s lacrosse world at the recreational, club and collegiate Division I level. Lacey was a 4 year starter on the defensive unit playing on historic Homewood Field for the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays under the leadership of legendary Coach Janine Tucker (2005). Lacey earned First Team All-Conference honors all four seasons and was an IWLCA All-American as a senior. She is a recipient of the Catherine P. Cramer Award for the top senior athlete at Hopkins. Lacey was revered as one of the nation’s top defenders and remains the single-season and career record holder for Caused Turnovers at 54 and 146 respectively and ranks 5th in program Division I history in groundballs at 174. Lacey is a member of the Class of 2022 Johns Hopkins University Athletic Hall of Fame as well as the Class of 2016 Greater Baltimore Lacrosse Hall of Fame.

After her collegiate career Lacey became the head coach of the CheckHers 2012 squad. Coaching the group from 6th grade to graduation. The team finished with several big tournament wins. From the roster 10 players committed to play Division I lacrosse, including nationally ranked programs like Penn State, Hopkins, Maryland and James Madison. Another six members went on to play at Division II and III. Lacey was the owner of Paramount Lacrosse Camp (2007-2010) before passing it on to Tracey to form the present day CheckHers Camp at Coppermine 4 Seasons.

Locally, Lacey was a standout dual-sport athlete at North Carroll High School playing varsity soccer and lacrosse for fours years. Lacey was a top point scorer for both sports and earned All-County First Team honors each year.

Lacey is excited to return to her passion of coaching and home to the CheckHers family after taking a hiatus to raise her children. Now that her daughter has fallen in love with the sport everything has come full circle and she is thrilled at leading another squad of young girls. Lacey has served as a head coach for Westminster Area Lacrosse and assistant coach in the Gamber Lacrosse program at the Tykers level. She received her master’s degree from Johns Hopkins and has worked for over a decade as a School Counselor at the high school level. She is well versed in the recruiting process athletically and academically. The Headley family owns and operates a local residential construction company.

Lacey’s coaching style can be described as fun, face paced, intense and forward thinking beyond the field. She believes in an athlete-centered coaching philosophy and understands lacrosse is an opportunity for a player to develop in skill, confidence, and moral character through team building, adversity and sportsmanship.

Assistant Coach Kristen Cannon

Current Team
2032 Black

Kristen was a member of the Check-Hers 2012 squad where she played for Coach Lacey from 6th to 12th grade.  She was a top recruit in the nation and a 3-sport varsity athlete at Manchester Valley HS (soccer, basketball, & lacrosse). Her competitive nature earned countless post-season honors in every sport including multiple All-County First Team Honors in each sport. Her athletic accomplishments were complemented by being named a US Lacrosse All-American and Scholar-Athlete.

Upon graduating from MVHS, she went on to become a starting midfielder at Johns Hopkins University and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology in 2016. Despite overcoming a few knee injuries, she was a major contributor on the both the offensive and defensive units. She often served as the team’s emotional leader in tight games. Her injuries fueled her fire more and eventually lead her to pursue her passion of helping others. Kristen’s intensity on the field carried over to the classroom making the Dean’s list at Hopkins several semesters. She was recognized as a 2016 IWCLA Academic All American. Ever relentless, Kristen applied to the nation’s most competitive graduate schools and in 2019 Kristen earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Duke University. She currently works as an Acute Care Physical Therapist at Carroll Hospital and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through NSCA.

Kristen has nearly 20 years of experience combined as a player and coach at the rec, college, club and post-collegiate levels. She rejoins the Check-Hers organization after several years coaching the 2024 Red M&D squad. We are ecstatic to welcome Kristen HOME to Check-Hers to cultivate the next crop of local talent.
